Airlines increasingly rely on passengers bringing their own devices to watch media on planes.
But it seems there is still some expectation that airlines will provide IFE content. The Monarch system allows users to download an app and (for a small fee) access some BBC shows and recent movies while on the flight. United will upgrade its new planes for a similar streaming service soon.
What does all of this consumer tech mean for biz jets? Likely, we’ll see more integration of personal devices into biz jet IFE systems (whether that’s streaming content from a server, sending content from a device to a screen, etc.). We doubt that tablets and phones will completely replace the built-in IFE systems that biz jet customers expect, though. They want their planes to work like their living rooms, where they can use their personal electronic devices and built-in entertainment systems.
