Videon’s Ultra HD system-on-module (SoM) allows broadcasters, AV companies, and other product developers to incorporate the STiH418 System-on-Chip (SoC) into their products. Available as an evaluation kit and with multiple software development kit options, the SoM will let companies build on a proven hardware solution for bringing AV products to market with UHD decode, multi-stream transcode, and a powerful quad core CPU and GPU.
We’re proud to announce that the SoM is already featured in one market-leading application. The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) demonstrated the new ATSC 3.0 standard at the NAB show 2016, and Videon’s SoM powered the prototype ATSC 3.0 Receiver and Gateway.
The SoM can be used for more than ATSC gateway devices, though. It’s supported by a suite of Android and embedded Linux SDKs for use in applications like:
- Streaming AV over IP
- OTT streaming
- UHD Blu-ray Disc playback
- File server and video recorder
The SoM offers 4K HEVC and H.264 decode capabilities, ideal for applications including high-quality digital signage, UHD media players, and set-top boxes. The addition of an H.264 encode feature, and 2/4K HEVC transcode to H.264 allows this device to fit into existing 2K/H.264 workflows, while future proofing for the coming switch to 4K. And the SoM offers a small form factor, low power consumption, high reliability solution.
Most importantly, the SoM is an excellent transition into 4K. By supporting HEVC to H.264 transcode and 4K decode, it will help customers introduce 4K to their product offerings and existing workflows.
